Colours for healthy bedrooms

The bedroom is a sanctuary for relaxation and regeneration. Low-emission, healthy-living paints should be the fundamental choice for the bedroom so that the bedroom with its colour scheme can unfold its full capacity as a calm, relaxing place. Thus also ensuring that you can sleep better.

Every colour affects us differently so that it is a good idea to take a closer look at the effect of individual colour shades particularly when designing the bedroom and its walls. After all, the colours chosen for the bedroom walls make a considerable contribution to creating a calm, relaxing and recuperative setting.

Important questions to ask before choosing the colour scheme could be:

  • How do the colours affect the quality of your sleep?
  • Which colours promote a healthy sleep?

Which paints are suitable for the walls of your bedroom?

Choosing the colour scheme for your bedroom depends on your personal needs and often also takes account of the colours of your furniture and the bed. Basically there is a huge selection of different colours for your bedroom so that you can make your loveliest ideas come true. But it is worth taking note of a few basic colour concepts that may help you achieve certain aspects, for example, if your bedroom should be somewhere where you can relax, calm down or be creative.

If you just use it for sleeping in, you should opt for subtle, soothing colours. Pastels or light beige shades are ideal. On the other hand, dark colours with a warm hue can also be used depending on the size of the room and how the furniture is arranged.

For example, in a large room, dark red walls can set accents for a cosy atmosphere. But many people also use the bedroom as their home office, so that this aspect also needs consideration when selecting the colour scheme. Colours such as blue or green are best for concentrating on work. If you would like more serenity at the same time, you should choose a lighter colour such as white or beige. Creative minds searching for new ideas every day may find a stimulating red or orange to be the right colour.
Selecting the right colour for the bedroom walls is also influenced by other factors such as the compass direction and whether your bedroom is on the ground floor or the top floor in the building. If your bedroom is full of natural light, dark colours might be better on the walls to dim the brightness a little. The same applies in reverse: if your room is already dark, you should opt for light colours for the walls such as traditional white or light beige shades to brighten the room visually.
