INTERIOR INSULATION

Walls that will make you feel good
There are plenty of good reasons to renovate and improve wall structure. It is often the formation of mould, sometimes an uncomfortable feeling or the wish to reduce your heating bills. There are many measures that you could choose. The goal is always the same when doing so:
noticeably improving the interior climate. A healthy interior climate is also the best way of preventing mould.

Interior systems and water vapour

As simple as it sounds, and as it is at the end of the day, before interior insulation is installed, the following points should be given careful consideration. For example: Should you choose a vapour-proof system or one that is open to diffusion?
Vapour-proof systems try to prevent moisture from the air entering and diffusing into the walls, and then turning back into water. Systems open to diffusion consciously allow the diffusion and can deal with the occurring water. What speaks for the latter is that no complicated, air-tight connections need to be produced nor a wall structure which allows the existing wall to keep drying on the room side. With the corresponding simulation programmes, it should be possible to calculate what volume occurs and can dry out over the course of the year. Due to the fact that the systems are designed with the transport of moisture in mind, they can better absorb condensation and distribute it under certain circumstances. This prevents the possible formation of mould. KEIM interior climate systems are either interior insulation or mould sanitation systems that are open to diffusion. The advantages are clear: They are simple to use and reliable.

Things quickly get uncomfortable with cold exterior walls

If the exterior walls are poorly insulated, the interior walls never even get close to reaching the temperature of the ambient air. They are noticeably cold. What feels like a draught is in fact the constant movement of air that results from the differences in temperatures. That alone can be uncomfortable enough, but a second phenomenon also occurs – the walls "exude cold". This just means that heat radiation from the wall is reduced and, because our feeling of comfort and cosiness is derived from the heat radiation in our surroundings, this pleasant sensation is quickly lost. And that's a shame, though it doesn't have to stay like that. Even small amounts of insulation installed subsequently can often work wonders. Though this may only lead to increases in temperature of 2-3 degrees, it is a lot because the heat radiation is calculated as 4-times the potency of the body's temperature. In that case, it can certainly be said: "A little goes a long way".

Functioning of a breathable interior insulation system
A SMALL CASE OF MOULD, AN EASY FIX
  1. In the first step, apply KEIM Mycal-Fix to the affected area in order to completely bind the spores. This is because spore flight is the main risk factor when removing mould damage.
  2. You then subsequently need to thoroughly clean the surface with KEIM Mycal-Ex.
  3. If necessary or desired, go over the surface with an approximately 4 to 6 mm thick layer of Mycal-Por render. This ensures that the surface condensation is additionally absorbed and spread over the render surface at the critical points. The moisture can dry inward over the entire surface, and the mould is not given the conditions to form.
  4. Possibly loose sections or sections affected by mould first need to be removed and repaired, in keeping with the normal safety precautions.
  5. To finish, apply two coats of Mycal-Top to the surface.
MOULD ON INTERIOR WALLS
Light mould formation

Over the years, mould can form in a house or apartment. The areas affected are often not any larger than an opened newspaper page (about 0.4 m²). An exact cause is often difficult to localise. The health risks are limited. In this case, the surfaces or components don't need to be replaced immediately – a proper treatment is sufficient here. First thoroughly treat the surface with a suitable mould remover, and then apply a special coat, which effectively protects against the formation of mould.

Severe mould

In the case of severe mould damage, however, a thorough search for the cause and planning the further measures to combat recurrence are absolutely necessary. Protecting the health of the person carrying out mould removal needs to be given the greatest priority, even when it is only a small area. It is definitely important to completely clean or replace all areas affected by mould. If all traces of mould are not removed, the treatment will not result in permanent success.

Why Mycal-Top?

Mycal-Top optimises the excellent properties of interior silicate paint in order to protect against mould. And Mycal-Top is also effective despite containing no biocide agents. Thanks to the special openness to diffusion of the applied coat, the interior walls remain completely dry. The high alkalinity of Mycal-Top reliably counteracts any new formation of mould. The inorganic structure demonstrably offers spores no nutrient base. A natural mineral contained in Mycal-Top increases the protection against mould and prevents its formation. Photocatalytically-active pigments also reduce harmful substances.

Why Mycal-Por?
  1. Mycal-Por is the ideal render for every interior application for the improvement of the interior climate.
  2. Mycal-Por is capillary-active and balances the fluctuations in moisture in the room.
  3. Mycal-Por absorbs excessive moisture from the ambient air and dispenses it again.
  4. Also for adhesion and reinforcement
  5. Mortar group CS I
  6. Grain size 0-0.6 mm
  7. Also for adhesion and reinforcemen
