How should I clean my brushes and tools after use?

If you have finished painting, then remove any excess by either scraping it back into the container, or painting onto old newspaper or wiping with a disused cloth. Rinse your equipment in a shallow bucket or bowl of warm soapy water rather than under a running tap to reduce water waste. Rinse paint trays ready for re-use.

Leave equipment to dry thoroughly and store by hanging up.

If you are planning to continue painting the following day, then simply wrap your tools in cling film, plastic bag, or tin foil to prevent them drying out.

Any water you do use for cleaning, can be used on compost heaps or plants – it’s that eco-friendly!

Additional Tips

  • Decant any leftover paint into a smaller airtight container. It can be stored at room temperature and used for up to six months.
  • Outdoor sheds, and garages can be too cold in the winter.
  • Dry any unwanted or waste paint. It’s natural enough to be disposed of in your normal household waste collection.
  • Why not donate any surplus to a local charity!
  • Your KEIM bucket is recyclable too, or has plenty of uses as a storage container, bucket or plant holder!
