About this project

Located on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, University College London (UCL) consists of multiple buildings including Marshgate; a 35,000sqm academic hub for creativity and multi-disciplinary research which sits at the forefront of UCL East.

A series of neighbours are spread over eight floors, all with collaboration space for exhibitions and internal conferences. The lower levels of Marshgate feature a network of publicly accessible spaces, including public art displays, cafΓ© and activities to draw the community organisations, schools and the public into the centre of the building. The upper levels facilitate specialised laboratories and workshops, and central floors concentrated to students, academic and research spaces.

Made up of in-situ and precast concrete panels that shift subtly in tone and texture, the façade showcases timber board marked concrete on the lower floors, while the upper levels are carefully shaped to draw in natural light and promote ventilation.

The project focused on promoting environmental consciousness and green outcomes through design, construction and on-site performance.

KEIM Ecotec was chosen by the London architecture firm, Stanton Williams, to be applied onto the internal concrete surfaces as a dust suppressant. KEIM Ecotec is a solvent free, silicone micro-emulsion based hydrocarbon concentrate for use as an environmentally friendly water repellent and dust suppressant.
