How did you come to your current position?
We have built up many skills over the past 2 decades including modern and historic building/renovation work but mainly specialise in facade restoration works, lime rendering and pointing, historic timber window restoration and mineral paint applications.
What is the process of preparing a project? How long does a project take on average?
A typical restoration project would start with us removing all incorrect material from each facade including most Portland cement renders and pointing and all non-breathable modern vinyl paints from each facade releasing years and years of trapped moisture. We would give most surfaces a week or so to dry before proceeding to repoint any failed lime mortars or start to prepare for lime render application. Once all lime materials have had a chance to βcureβ (generally 30+ days minimum) then all surfaces will be ready for mineral paint application. A typical 4 bed farmhouse could take us 2/3 months to complete with drying times but a considerably larger manor for example can take a year or so depending on the depth of restoration requiredβ¦. With our building work this can range from large manor extensions to the high-quality modern blend renovations, ranging from small 2/3 month projects right through to 1.5/2 year large scale renovations of historic and modern buildings.
What are the biggest challenges and how do you overcome them?
We do like a challenge, but sometimes as we remove incorrect material from our beautiful historic homes the biggest challenge can be uncovering horrendous bad workmanship that needs rectifyingβ¦. some problems can lie deep within the structures integrity which inevitably means a lot of damage can/may be caused just by investigating alone which would then also need rectifying. This can be a challenge for both me and my client, whom may be completely unaware of such underlying problems and casts. Our beautiful English weather can also be somewhat challenging too.
What has been your best project so far?
Over the last 2 decades we have undertaken many beautiful Manor House restorations that take some beating but Iβd say our greatest and most prestigious achievement was our facade restoration of Kensington Palace which was also a KEIM project.
What do you like most about your work?
Client satisfaction and recommendationβs have to be my favourite part of why we do what we do but it also wouldnβt work half as well if we didnβt have such great relationships with the team at KEIM Mineral Paints and our local lime centres too.
Why do you use KEIM Paints?
We have been using Keim for nearly 2 decades and as mentioned we know most of the team personally and are treated very well and recommended to highly prestigious projects by the KEIM team. This is just another reason why we use KEIM mineral paints to finish all our projects and will continue to do so.
Which KEIM products do you prefer to work with?
Our favourite products that we use most often would include β¦. Universal Render, Universal Render Fine, Soldalit Grob, all Soldalit products, all Royalan products, all Optil products and KEIM STS 7M paint softener.
