SUSTAINABLE HOUSING IN FOXOS
Project description: Located at Foxos beach in the Rías Baixas region (Pontevedra province), this sustainable residential complex is harmoniously integrated into nature, occupying a unique location with some of the finest views of the Atlantic Ocean. This project, designed by Carbajo Barrios architectural studio (Santiago de Compostela) and developed by Promotora Arial, spans 25,000 m², with 80% dedicated to open spaces, roads, and landscaped areas. The housing units are grouped into four zones, offering homes ranging from one to four bedrooms, sized between 75 m² and 224 m².
The Foxos residential development embodies a firm commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental stewardship, achieving visual harmony within an area of outstanding natural beauty. To accomplish this, key materials such as wood, exposed concrete, and vegetation have been thoughtfully incorporated into the design.

The homes feature adjustable shutters made from thermally treated wood to provide solar protection, along with insulation systems designed to maximise energy efficiency and optimise natural light throughout both summer and winter.
For the wooden shutters on the façades, the innovative KEIM Lignosil-Verano silicate coating has been employed, producing a naturally greyed surface that closely resembles the weathered appearance typically observed on alpine mountain huts. This visual effect enhances the homes' integration within their natural surroundings.
Treatment with KEIM Lignosil-Verano accelerates a process that normally takes decades and is influenced by numerous environmental factors, providing a consistent finish from day one.
The purpose of Lignosil-Verano is to gradually wear off over time, allowing the wood’s inherent natural greying to take over, evolving towards increasingly authentic grey tones. Consequently, each residence develops its own unique character over the years, blending seamlessly into the coastal landscape and significantly reducing maintenance requirements.
