MURAL “AUZOTARREN MOSAIKOA” IN GETXO

The façade of numbers 3 and 5 Ibaigane Street, adjacent to Las Arenas Station Square in Getxo, has recently been unveiled with the mural “Auzotarren mosaikoa” created by artists Giorgos Gkareth Christou and Lisbeth Montoya Ramallo.

This stunning artwork, painted with KEIM Soldalit mineral sol-silicate paint, captures a pictorial collage where emblematic local references — such as the Casas Baratas of Romo — interact with natural and social elements.

The mural also pays tribute to artist Josemi Ibarretxe and his iconic piece “El ajedrez” (“The Chessboard”), which occupied the façade for several decades and became a visual landmark for the neighbourhood.

This creation was the winner of the first edition of the Miren Larrea Muralism Award, promoted by Getxo Kultura, and stands as a testament to the talent, dedication, and artistic sensitivity invested in the project.

For KEIM, taking part in projects like this one holds particular significance, as murals were the origin and foundation of our company. KEIM silicate paints combine maximum durability, colour stability, and environmental responsibility, thanks to their mineral formulation and chemical bond with the substrate. This makes them ideal for murals designed to remain unchanged for decades. Indeed, buildings decorated with KEIM paints in the 19th century can still be admired today in excellent condition — such as the White Eagle Inn in Stein am Rhein, the Schwyz Town Hall (1891) in Switzerland, the façades of Oslo (1895), and Traunstein in Germany (1891). Now, the “Auzotarren mosaikoa” mural joins this list of masterpieces that will stand the test of time, adorning unique façades around the world.

At KEIM, we would like to congratulate both the organisers and the artists on this extraordinary contribution — a mural that combines conceptual depth, refined technique, and a strong sense of community. It is an honour for us to have supplied our mineral paint for a work of such profound cultural and symbolic value.
